On 21.06.2025 from 10am to 11pm, we invite young and old to a special summer day full of exciting activities and a unique underground experience.
Kids discover slate
During this kids' activity in the afternoon (2pm – 4.30pm), the youngsters discover the underground slate quarries, cut their own slate, just like the Leekëpperten used to do, and then personalise it with bright colours - a great souvenir to take home.

Fascination of blacksmithing

Train ride
Climb aboard, lean back and enjoy! The ride with the old industrial train across the museum site offers interesting perspectives and a good dose of nostalgia.
⛏️ Longer opening hours & mine by evening light
On this special day, the museum is open until 9 pm - and so is the underground visitor mine (last entrance: 7.30 pm)! Immerse yourself in the underground world - mysterious, cool and full of history. Experience the fascinating atmosphere of the former slate quarries during the evening.
Evening reading underground (from 6 pm)
As the day comes to an end, a special highlight begins: three authors read passages from their works. Literature meets goose bumps, deep underground.
